Chapter 156: Florida Man Rushed to Hospital After Third Wife's Affection Leaves Him Peeing Blood
The ground collapsed, revealing a massive sinkhole that exposed bedrock more than 100 meters below.
Felix raised an eyebrow but kept driving. Just as he thought the danger was behind him, a deafening explosion echoed in front of the truck. Without warning, a pillar of flame shot up from the ground, stretching like a fiery beacon into the sky.
Felix slammed the brakes, bringing the truck to a screeching halt.
"What the hell?!" His heart skipped a beat, and he stared at the fiery column in disbelief. He knew the land was unstable, but an underground flame pillar? That was new.
"Jessica, what\'s going on?!"
<There must have been a hole or a place where oxygen made a contact with the heated mana oil underground or melted lava rock. This area\'s soil is heavily contaminated with mana oil, so some areas are definitely flammable. Go figure.>
Felix groaned, feeling a heartache in his chest. The mana oil beneath the forest had been one of the last precious resources around here, and now it was going up in flames. He sighed, clutching his shirt as if the pain of watching valuable resources burn could somehow be soothed.
"Is there any way to stop this, or are we just going to roast everything down there?" Felix asked, trying not to sound as desperate as he felt.
<You could absorb the fire if your flame mana mastery reached "Beginner" level. That should extinguish the flames.> J
Felix rolled his eyes. He muttered under his breath, knowing there was no easy fix, "So, in the end, I\'m stuck training again... typical."
Opening the system\'s encyclopedia menu, Felix navigated to the entry on phoenix breathing techniques, the cornerstone of flame mana control. He skimmed the text, hoping there was some hidden shortcut he\'d missed before.
Maybe he could cheat his way through the training?
But no. Everything pointed to hard work and discipline.
With no better option, Felix begrudgingly purchased Phoenix Breathing - Volume 2 from the system store, coughing up 10,000 years of his lifespan.
Before the forest fire, Felix would have groaned at such a steep price. He would probably have complained, "I\'d rather invest in a few Dim Philosopher Stones!"
But now? Considering the situation, 10,000 years felt like a bargain. At least it didn\'t feel as painful this time.
As soon as the manual was added to his inventory, the encyclopedia updated. Felix had two options: he could either open the physical book or read it from the system screen.
Unfortunately, now wasn\'t the time to crack open a new skill book. The ground beneath the truck trembled ominously, and the increasing heat from underground was rapidly converting the minerals into lava rocks.
Felix gritted his teeth, knowing he had to get out of there before the earth collapsed entirely. He jerked the steering wheel, quickly shifting into reverse.
The truck\'s engine roared as he floored the gas pedal, sending it hurtling backward at full speed. Just as Felix had predicted, the ground up ahead gave way, crumbling and sinking into the molten depths. Luckily, it wasn\'t fast enough to chase after the truck, and Felix managed to stay ahead of the destruction.
Meanwhile, Diana looked unbothered by the chaos. She calmly observed the fiery disaster from her perch while she gnawed on a piece of raw dragon meat that she had cleverly stashed during last night\'s beer party, savoring it as though they weren\'t in the middle of an inferno. After a while, she knocked lightly on the window, catching Felix\'s attention.
"My king," she called, her voice almost too casual for the situation. "Do you want me to help with this?"
Felix blinked, half-exasperated, half-surprised, and rolled down the window.
"You think you can put THAT out?" he asked, pointing at the massive fire beacon ahead, flames still roaring into the sky.
Diana smirked confidently. "Easy."
With a quick snap of her fingers, the towering fire tornado instantly transformed into an immense ice pillar. The temperature suddenly dropped to minus 273.15 degrees.
Felix watched in disbelief as the extreme cold rippled outward, racing along the ground. Lava rocks and even the mana oil deposit were frozen solid in seconds. The once volatile, crumbling land now stood stable and cold.
Diana turned to him, giving a playful wink. "You\'re welcome."
Felix could only stare at the scene in front of him, utterly astonished. His mind raced as he processed the sheer power Diana had just displayed.
\'She\'s one dangerous girl!\'
He made a mental note that whatever happened from now on, he would definitely not get on Diana\'s bad side. Felix couldn\'t help but evaluate the pros and cons of keeping such a powerful—and unpredictable—ally close.
He weighed the thought of making this experienced lamia queen his third wife, considering the political and magical advantages. But then again… did he really need another complication in his already chaotic love life?
"I guess I don\'t have to train so hard anymore," Felix mused aloud, cracking a grin.
The immediate crisis was over, and thanks to Diana\'s intervention. For now, the next priority was sticking to their deal. He needed to get Diana to his floating island and set her up there, especially since her expertise could prove useful with the ongoing expansion of his territory. Then, he could focus on his next big moves—whether it was tracking down another fate crystal bearer or starting that much-needed training regimen.
…
At noon, the sight of Felix\'s flying island loomed larger on the horizon. Though he could have easily driven for a few more hours without stopping, his routine kicked in. Felix decided it was time for a short break. He parked the truck at the edge of what was once the infamous Black Forest, now reduced to ashes and charred trees after the fire.
Stretching his legs, Felix stepped out of the vehicle and, with a familiar motion, reached into his inventory. Out came an instant-cup noodle and a metal canteen filled with hot water. With a quiet sense of contentment, he plopped down next to the truck and began cooking his meal, the comforting smell of broth wafting in the air.
Moments later, Diana slithered out of the truck and settled beside him, curling her tail. She watched Felix prepare his meal with mild amusement.
Without a word, Felix reached into his inventory again and, with a casual flick of his wrist, pulled out a massive chunk of dragon meat, weighing a solid five kilograms. He handed it to Diana, who received it with gleeful enthusiasm.
She gnawed on the dragon meat, savoring every bite as if it were the finest delicacy.
"You spoil me," Diana said between mouthfuls, her voice muffled by the food.
Felix smirked, waiting for his noodles to cook. "Well, I do aim to keep my allies happy. Plus, I need to keep you fueled up after that ice magic show."
Diana chuckled, licking her lips. "You know, my subordinates only offered me some disgusting human meatballs or something simple. But dragon meat... I could get used to this."
As Felix slurped the last of his noodles, his thoughts drifted to how much his life had shifted. He had once dreamed of living the simple life of an adventurer, blending into small towns, seeking occasional excitement while remaining mostly unnoticed.
But fate had taken a different turn. Trouble after trouble had forced him to rethink his desires, pushing him to seek stability, a place to call home, a sanctuary where he could perhaps raise a family.
Yet somehow, without fully realizing it, he had started building what could only be described as a miniature monster empire on his flying island—all in preparation for the looming emergence of the demon god.
Lost in these reflections, Felix polished off his instant noodles and downed the soup like it was his last meal. With an idle wave of his hand, he recycled the paper cup, converting it into a minuscule amount of mana.
Without thinking too much, he then pulled out a fresh keg of cold beer from his inventory, filling a mug automatically, as if on autopilot.
But before he could take a sip, Diana\'s tail slithered around his waist, pulling him gently yet firmly toward her. With a mischievous grin, she swiped the mug from his hand, giggling.
"Don\'t start drinking without me, my king," she teased.
Felix blinked, momentarily snapping back to reality. It was, after all, still noon, and he had the island to reach. He sighed, lightly slapping his forehead as if to shake the temptation away, then handed the entire keg over to Diana with a resigned grin.
"You drink it. I still have to drive," he said, shaking his head.
Diana lightly laughed. She leaned in closer, dropping her voice to a hushed whisper as she brushed her lips against Felix\'s ear.
"You\'re very silly, my king. If you just asked, I could\'ve flown you to the island. No need to drive at all."
Felix froze for a moment, his forehead meeting his palm with a more forceful slap this time.
Flight magic!
Your next adventure is on m_v_l_e_mpyr
How could he forget?
Diana had more than enough power to make this entire trip unnecessary. He felt like a fool.
Before Felix could open his mouth to acknowledge the blunder, Diana was already moving. Her hands slid down to his belt with surprising speed, and before he could fully register what was happening, she began to undo it. Her grin widened, and her voice dropped to a sultry purr.
"I still feel bad about what happened in the cave. Let me make it up to you, my king."
Felix\'s eyes widened in a mix of panic and disbelief as Diana pushed him down, leaning forward, her lips parting as she began to "devour" in a very different way than what had transpired earlier.
"H-Hey!" Felix tried to protest, but his words were drowned out by the unyielding lamia queen.
His hands instinctively reached for her shoulders, but it was already too late. Diana had made up her mind, and Felix had forgotten that dealing with an alcoholic flirtatious lamia queen meant dealing with her "on her terms".
The quiet serenity of the forest edge was suddenly filled with sultry sounds.
Felix\'s balls couldn\'t be any lighter.
